Hospederia Retamar

Nestling in the foothills of the Sierra los Camorolos is the Hospederia Retamar, a beautifully refurbished Andalucian farmhouse, with authentic antiques and furnishings. The hotel also has its own chapel. Situated just outside the village of Rio Gordo it provides splendid views of the surrounding countryside.

Individually and sumptuously decorated, all the rooms are en-suite, and have their own sitting area, and all surround a wonderful courtyard filled with fragrant flowers and water features. The courtyard also has small, seated alcoves where you can relax at any time of the day.

All the meals are served in the hotel’s dining room that is filled with antiques and authentic traditional farmhouse utensils.

If you choose, you can sit outside on the charming patio amidst flowers, waterfalls and watch the abundance of bird life, or cool off in the pool and watch the sunset. Many people on our painting holidays have enjoyed the quiet restful location to sketch and paint.

This accommodation allows you to retire to enjoy its sanctuary at any time of day. In the early morning and the evening, swifts and swallows circle ahead, whilst eagles can be spotted at any time of the day.

Jose and his family, together with his staff are tuned into our painting holidays and are familiar with your needs. They expertly take care of your every need for the duration of your stay.  If non-painting companions want to experience some of the local sites they will be delighted to help with the arrangements.

Dining out during your stay

As part of your holiday experience you will be eating at different restaurants on some evenings. All have been carefully chosen for their authentic dishes and their use of fresh locally grown ingredients.

Lunches will be varied, both in their content and locations. We eat at village bars and country restaurants sampling traditional tapas, paellas and  freshly cooked seafood.

All the evening meals will be served with wine, and if you choose you can sample some of the locally made sherries and brandies.

Vegetarian guests are catered for in all of the restaurants that we visit.
